Evermore (Grandma)

Vanished. Never to be seen again, but only in my dreams. Your scent was left behind. Your words stitched in my heart. Your absence is unbearable, refusing to be endured.

Yet, your spirit surrounds me, whispering your guidance, your love and your peace. You have demonstrated the certainty that love never subsides; For nine years have passed and my affection for you has yet to perish.

Last night, I lit a candle as I closed my eyes in meditation. I searched for you in my spirit as my soul hungered for your embrace. My tears betrayed me as they fell, imitating the waterfalls in the ocean. I miss you is such a belittling phrase. Its expression is so dismissive of the significance of your existence and who you are to me. I am left here alone to gaze out at the clouds, wishing you were here standing beside me.

As the winds blow and the trees sway to the earth’s pulse, I inhale, taking in the fragrance of nature to show my gratitude to the Creator for painting a masterpiece like you. Run in Paradise my angel. I will love you evermore.

  1. How beautifully this writing frames the quiet cry of my heart whenever I think of my amazing mother. With a joy-filled soul because of her life, and sad heart because of her physical absence I speak her name…Tunisia…
Thank you for sharing your gift of words, reflection, and gratitude. My soul was moved.
